Week 3: PEADAGOGY OF THE OPPRESSED

“Pedagogy of the Oppressed” is a seminal work by Brazilian educator Paulo Freire that explores the dynamics of oppression and liberation in education. The book critiques the traditional  model of  banking  education, in which teachers  impart  knowledge  to  passive students, and  argues  for a more  liberal  approach.

Freire  argued  that education  must  be a collaborative process of dialogue and critical thinking,  in   which  teachers and students actively participate in the learning process.  It  emphasizes the importance of  consciousness   raising,  which is the process of developing critical  awareness  and awareness of  sociopolitical  realities. Through  awareness,  oppressed individuals can recognize the oppressive structures that marginalize them and work  toward   their  liberation.  The book also  addresses  the concept of  “culture of silence,” where oppressed individuals are silenced and prevented from expressing their thoughts and experiences. Freire  emphasizes  the importance of dialogue as a means of breaking this silence and  promoting  space for collective action and social transformation.

Overall, “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” offers a framework for  an   emancipatory  pedagogy that  empowers  individuals and communities to challenge and transform  systems   of   oppression.   photo.  It has had a significant influence on critical pedagogy and has been widely used as a resource  by  educators and activists seeking to create  equitable and just educational practices.  worth   more.

Group work

The task for week 3 was  to form a group and  have  the  members  of  the   group   transfer   the   names   of   the  group members to  her   Aula.   Our   mission   was  also  to identify a target community with  a  social challenge and  provide   them   with   a   possible   solution   using  one of the SDG  goals.

In my  group,  we decided to  stand   firm   and   grounded   in   a   common   goal   to   achieve.   Immediately   after   the   third   week   of   lessons,  we had a  short  meeting  to decide on the modernity  we  would   use  to  realize   the  project.  We  have  agreed to work as a team  consisting  of  the   following   five   people.

Type of community  you  want to  interact  with

Based on  our   shared   ideals  as a  group,  we decided to  collaborate  with  the  fashion industry  and   focus  on fast fashion.  We  choose SDG 9 as one of the  Sustainable   Development   Goals   related  to  fast fashion as a community we  want  to  be   a   part   of.  The  goals  of SDG 9  are  to  build  reliable infrastructure, improve sustainable  industries  and  foster  innovation.  (united   nations)

My  group  proposed  two  means  to carry out  the   project:   interviews   and   surveys.   We   decided   that   at  our  next   meeting   we   would   agree  on the tactics we  would  use for the  project. As a team, we were able to incorporate Freire’s principles by promoting respectful and open dialogue in other to share diverse perspectives and knowledge.
