Week 2: SDG 4:Quality Education. ( A case study on Nigeria)
As Nigeria continues to face educational challenges, this blog aims to highlight what progress has or has not been made and explore possible solutions to the future.
Nigeria's SDG 4 aims to provide inclusive and quality education for all. The focus is on ensuring access to education, closing gender gaps, promoting inclusive education, integrating global citizenship education, and increasing education funding.
Overcrowded classroom in NigeriaChallenges faced in Nigeria educational system
One of the major problems in the Nigerian education system is lack of access to education, especially in rural and marginalized communities. Many children cannot go to school due to factors such as poverty, cultural norms and poor infrastructure. This hinders their overall development and perpetuates the viscous cycle of poverty.
Another challenge in achieving SDG 4 in Nigeria is the issue of quality education. Despite the increase in student numbers, the quality of education remains a problem as many school lack qualified teachers, teaching materials and adequate facilities which impact student's learning outcomes and their ability to compete globally.
Furthermore, gender inequality in education is a persistent problem in Nigeria. Here, Girls in particular face numerous barriers to education, including earl marriage, cultural norms and gender- based violence.
The Big question "Is NIGERIA MARGINALIZED IN UN SDG?"
Nigeria's large population and diverse socio economic condition can affect access to quality education. However it is important to note that the international community, including the United Nations, recognizes the difficulties faced by Nigeria. Through various initiatives and partnerships, they support further development of education and the closing of existing gaps. Efforts are being made to increase access to education, improve inclusion in the Nigerian educational system.
IS THIS EFFORT ENOUGH?
GROUP WORK
My group members and I decided to go for a different SDG which is relatable to where we are all coming from. We chose SDG 4, SDG 9, SDG 13 respectively. We held our ist meeting after class to commence our journey. We pushed with great effort and team work and at the end came up with beautiful ideas and slides below:
